Skateboarding as part of school PE lessons

Published by Barry at 1:09 pm under Random

News Exert from The Times a daily national newspaper published in the United Kingdom.

Skateboarding could become as much a part of PE lessons as football under plans aimed at fighting childhood obesity. Educationists hope that pupils in Scotland — a third of whom are overweight — will ditch TV and computer games and take up sport if they are introduced to more diverse, modern activities in physical education classes.

In what is thought to be a national first, Dundee City Council is in talks with a skateboarding park with a view to offering skateboarding lessons as part of gym classes. The Scottish Executive has committed an extra £20 million up until 2007 for sports development and pledged to train 400 extra PE teachers. Martial arts, dance, skating and aerobics may also be introduced.

Yeahh, I used to be from Bedok North Primary, where they had a skateboarding club, but the school had to be demolished due to low annual intakes.. Yeahh, a pity! It lasted 4 years? and that was in the late 1990s. Havent heard of other local schools having skateboarding as a CCA since… Damn. haha
