Flatspots on AWS/Habitat Wheels
It has come to my attention that the Alien Workshop and Habitat brand WHEELS that we sell tend to flat spot very easily if you are the type of skater that does powerslides and blunts lots.
I’ve been using a set of Momentum wheels ever since we started selling them and never tested the AWS/HBT wheels myself, but the other day Dan flatspotted some within a couple of minutes and Stef tested a set and he flatspotted them with ease too. I can only conclude that the wheels SUCK. (At least for advanced skaters)
This really is no surprise because in my past experience, most DECK companies make crappy WHEELS. I hate to sell stuff that sucks so we will not order any more wheels from AWS/HBT. We will just sell stuff that they are good with, such as DECKS.
For those who have purchased the AWS/HBT WHEELS from us in the past, this is what we will do:
We’ve been testing some blank wheels for some time now and we just got a new shipment in of what we think should be good ones. If you have bought some AWS/HBT wheels in the past and they are flatspotted, just come down to the store and we will give you a set of BLANK WHEELS for free.
Sorry we can’t offer refunds cos we are kinda.. sorta… well ok we are seriously… in bad financial shape.
wow atleast you guys are nice enough to give a new set of blank wheels.
other skateshops won’t give a shit
whats a flatspot
when wheels kinda lose their shape and become less round
flat spot usually occurs in powerslides, blunts tail/nose slide.. whenever ur wheels slide across a surface on the non-rolling side. if u flat spot one side of ur wheel may not seem round and sometimes even squarish- u know u got pwned by then.
i like Bones STFs cuz they are supposedly the most durable wheels in the market. They actually did a survey on like ten different brands for DRAG test. other brands tested include ricta/ flip / spitfire
oops they dint test against ricta.. i think ritca is supposedly a good brand their quite costly 75 sgd for ricta chrome. bones stf cost 60sgd, same for spf.

this is awesome service by barry/gary. thanks for doing this for the skaters. this would definetly keep peeps coming back to your shop. now if only people give exchange for decks too..muahaha
btw, darkstar guarantees no flatspots on their wheels. ask barry. he has one, and u can keep using em, and would never get flatspots, unless you are trying powerslides at 100kph. my friend uses em, and does powerslides/boardslides on a regular basis for over a year now, and no flatspots so far. buy em. you wont regret it.
Ricta doesn’t flatspot much, but they do get small real quick.
For some reason, instead of flatspotting, the wear is evenly distributed along the whole wheel. I’ve been doing these long powerslides on concrete and my ricta wheels are still round as ever. But from 49mm they have become 45mm.
sorry gary…..
Yeh, I’ve been using darkstar for two years now and have no flatspots whatsoever till this day. And ricta doesn’t get flatspots either BUT, they wear out rly.. quickly like… seb’s…. :D jks jks.
But guys, let’s be a little ‘peking’ serious.. Let’s ALL just get momentum wheels from now on.. Cuz to be honest..Gary is a ‘peking’ BEAST
And barry will kick yo ass in skate and hiromi in ’surf’
Baaahahah
(And gazzuh. Send me an email dauwg.. Cuz u don’t use facebook…)
the problem is especially when you powerslide on NEW wheels when they are shipped all the way to the tropics. these wheels need to be ridden in for a little while so they can get used to the moisture, as urethane gets harder the more they get hot/cold back and forth. yes they’re not great if they flatspot straight away but learn how to deal with skating in the tropics!
damn romke..
u know yo shieeet
