What now?

Published by Gary at 3:00 pm under News

A big thank you to everyone who came down on the last day of skating at miniLSP!

Though at times it was too crowded and hectic, I’m sure everyone had lots of fun!

Right now… well, the miniramps upstairs are being taken apart as i type this. The shop will remain open for about 2 months more because we cant just terminate our lease in short notice. Expect more stock to come in next week. With the skatepark gone, we now have a ton of space for the store.

As for our new location, we are still looking -_-

  12. jackon 31 Aug 2009 at 11:05 pm

how much does it cost to make the mini ramp on the second level? and who do you contact to build the miniramp at the second level? By the way, LSP is dope!

  13. Garyon 01 Sep 2009 at 1:27 am

David: the original plan was for a big skatepark in jurong west. however, after everything was already in the works, our landlord (FICO SPORTS HUB) had some problem with their landlord and delayed us for over a year. We spent a huge sum on the architects and the structure and equipment, which has been in storage now for over a year.

Yes we are quite unlucky and nothing seems to be going well for us. At this stage we are not sure if we are able to risk losing even more money after we lost another huge amount with miniLSP. For our new location we will be much more cautious and it would have to be a really workable deal. Making a skatepark in the far west would mean cheaper rent but also less customers willing to travel the distance. Making it in central singapore would be ideal but rent is killer.

Jack: We spent 4k and 8k respecitively on the 2 ramps upstairs. We design the ramps and work closely with our contractor to make sure everything is done well. We were very pleased with the results and we are pretty sure we have the best price for the quality of work we get.

What many people dont realise is that the large miniramp was built into a balcony area and we spent a large sum of money enclosing the entire area. The cost of the big miniramp if we were to include the cost of enclosing it properly would be about 20k.

Basically the renovation costs doing up the entire shophouse really killed us, it was in terrible shape when we got it and we spent way more money than we planned. Its kinda funny that people keep requesting discounts and free stuff as if we are lying when we say we lost a lot of money. Sadly, I really messed this one up badly and its nobodys fault but mine.

Somehow on 29th we did not film at all, it was only at the end that i gave the camera to barry, im not sure what he filmed but the tape was near the end so i dont think it was much.

we are actually sitting on quite a bit of footage accumulated over the past months, we just have not been able to edit cos we’ve been too busy and my computer died an d i have not fixed it to the point of being able to edit yet :(

Yeah both Gary and Barry have put a lot of work and money into LSP, a lot of which we will never know or fully appreciate.

Don’t worry too much Gary, with your customer base already now in place, hopefully things should smoothen out for you guys. Keep up the great service and attitude and no matter where you shift to, your customers will follow.

For e.g. , I was actually really very keen on an Almost deck, but after visiting your stall and having a chat with Barry, I knew I just had to support you guys and what you guys were doing. Thus I ended up with a Habitat deck from LSP.

I look forward to your next venture! Best of luck guys and you have all our support!

    cheers,
    Brendan

i hope you guys find a good location fast…and also hope that you guys earn your money also…man..really regretted not going there on the last day

Never mind. Your landlords aren’t good. Legally and financially, I know there are few who would bother with skate and all these fringe stuff. All we can do is to move on. How I wished I know some lawyer who is as passionate as we do in skate, or some businessman who also loves skate so much that he is willing to see the opportunities and give you guys the support.

But be rest assured, skateboarding is still good… I am particularly interested in this project, Skateboarding for Autism (http://www.skateboardingforautism.org/Skateboarding_For_Autism/Welcome.html) because I am particularly interested how autistics can pick up skateboarding as a form of release and area of interest… to at least gain confidence in their lives, and even gain friends who are passionate in skate! How wonderful!

I wonder what can I offer to the local skate scene? (Btw I am still waiting enlistment now…)
