Noise trouble at miniLSP

Published by Gary at 7:01 pm under News

Ok guys, due to persistent noise complaints:

1) We will now be closed on Sundays and open on Mondays instead until further notice.

2) The smaller miniramp will be destroyed tomorrow.

3) The bigger miniramp will be modified some way in the near future. If we cant get anything to work we will have to get rid of that one too.

4) /wrists

dun destroy the mini ramp,i heard somebody in the sk8boarding forum wanted ramps to put at his secret sk8 location?

  12. peakon 23 Jul 2009 at 12:29 am

hey guys yeah, consider selling off the ramp instead..

  13. Barryon 23 Jul 2009 at 2:36 am

The smaller mini-ramp is much louder than the larger one we have.
We will try to salvage what we can but most of the wood is glued and nailed down making it extremely difficult to disassemble and reassemble. Let’s hope we don’t have to get rid of the larger mini-ramp also. Skate it while you still can…

  14. hakeemon 23 Jul 2009 at 6:41 am

    which ramp ah ?
the small space one or the bigger space ?
should be the small space one rite ?

  22. wiggeron 25 Jul 2009 at 2:25 am

F you man your in singapore man!!.so dont act we’re all kiasu.ppl are trying to run business what do u expect.

  23. suggestionon 25 Jul 2009 at 3:31 pm

whats ur problem?? cant u read??. I said Move to other location, where people wont complain about the noise. find another location instead of renovating and waste money when still people still complain. they have to remove the mini ramp where people learn their new tricks.. dumbass.

  24. Gawyneon 25 Jul 2009 at 6:54 pm

i dont think its that easy to just move, need find new place that has space, + i dont think theres a place where theres absolutely no other shop around to complain unless they rent a warehouse or smth like that lo….

wigger please read the * Leave a Commet ( English only, no insults/abusive stuff pls) *.
its just slightly above the text box, you can’t miss it!

…… their rent is already very $$$$, moving will just add on to their cost and delay the real deal……..

  25. :(on 25 Jul 2009 at 6:58 pm

    Rent is 2000 bucks man..

  26. Garyon 25 Jul 2009 at 7:54 pm

we are constantly looking for a location for the big skatepark. we do know that miniLSP is not an ideal space for a skate facility but it was all we could find. it came to a point of desperation with the delays so we made a (bad) gamble to get something in the meantime.

I’m going to reveal our costs very honestly now so that you guys can better understand the situation we are in.

First of all, the rent here is not 2k, its 10k.

Renovations have so far been at least 60k, there are still on-going renovations due to the unforeseen problems controlling the noise.

    The electrical bill is 1.5k.

As for the noise issue, we did soundproofing to take care of airborne sound, but we did not anticipate that structure borne noise (impacts and vibrations travelling across the entire concrete structure) would be so great and so difficult to control without spending an obscene amount of money.

At this time we have already spent far too much money and we are still not making enough to cover our basic monthly costs, so instead of fixing the miniramp (more $$$) our only option is to get rid of it.

  27. :(on 25 Jul 2009 at 7:56 pm

    10K FOR A MONTH RENT?!

  28. Gawyneon 25 Jul 2009 at 8:05 pm

can u guys like appeal to ymca sg for help or something like that?

i mean after all they are in charge of youth stuff like bmx and Skateboarding/ aggro inline etc and we youths need to skate without getting skin cancer…. :(

  29. fatherof2on 25 Jul 2009 at 11:26 pm

i suggest that u guys move to a another location, for example,a warehouse maybe!
years back in 1980s to 90s there is this a SkateWarehouse somewhere in Marpherson area,at the backyard there is a quater pipe n some sutffs that we use for sk8ing.i think some of the old skoolers know this place back then ..

    juz my 2cents!

  30. d-vitoon 26 Jul 2009 at 1:23 am

i suggest you guys got to some donation thingy dude..maybe go to all the skate spots and ask for a little donation…perhaps after that you guys could shift to another area which is more conveniant..

  31. noooooon 26 Jul 2009 at 2:15 am

aaaa dont moove if u do dont move to far from where u are now : )

  32. Garyon 26 Jul 2009 at 8:52 am

isnt easy to move into a warehouse because we will need to apply for change of use to a sports facility to be legit. its ok to get a warehouse and just skate it ourselves with friends, but not for a business.

  33. Anonymouson 26 Jul 2009 at 12:15 pm

i think you people should think of stuff that can really benefit minilsp. for example, going to skate areas and asking for donations, or donations in general would be, for firsts, like demeaning yourself to a beggar.

when you skate, do you go up to other skaters all around singapore to ask “hey can i have some spare change to pay for my setup?” furthermore, even if they do do it, the amount they raise is likely to be insignificant.

moving to a new, large location is great, but then they will have to pay for new renovation or erection costs + licence and furnishing, which i think is seriously not possible with their current account deficit.

what i think you can do instead, to help maintain this skate haven is to give active support. of which, the most easy and convenient way would be to give donations yourself.

other than that, you can help them promote the place and their stuff to your friends and bring all would be skaters to minilsp to purchase their products. afterall, minilsp does have the friendliest cookiest staff and very reasonable prices, or so i feel after comparing prices of shops around singapore. lastly, you can also support minilsp by propping their revenue when you purchase skate stuff/replacement parts like new trucks or decks for your own use from them.

lsp is a great undertaking, and minilsp is no small feat either. for lsp to become reality and minilsp to continue operation so that we dont whine and swear at god when it rains and have no awesome rain-friendly skatespots, we all have to get off our butts to support this first and one of a kind indoor skate plaza.

  34. romkeon 26 Jul 2009 at 5:50 pm

there are a number of old ass army camps being taken down, with no future plans- i believe there’s one behind dempsey that could be available. it’s shut off, but i was there for some permissioned photography thing, qi an’s been there too, there’s this huge hall area- you never know, that could be a SICK place to build a park/shop.

  35. Gawyneon 26 Jul 2009 at 9:19 pm

hey i just wanna check but does anyone know if anyhow putting up advertisement is legal? if it is, and the LSP people dont mind making flyers i wouldn’t mind skating to notice boards/ lamp posts / trees / peoples face to put them up

but im not sure if the response will be good T_T

  36. jameson 27 Jul 2009 at 8:28 am

how about u use the money we pay you or get a morgage and pay it off later

  37. Surathon 27 Jul 2009 at 10:48 am

can we like sign a petition for government aid?

  38. jameson 27 Jul 2009 at 10:48 am

im looking for a sk8board around $180 which is a good branda which : trucks, board, bearings and weels should i get

  39. Garyon 27 Jul 2009 at 10:57 am

Thank you all for the comments, we would not feel good receiving donations because that would be like bailing out all new businesses which fail, which most do. We took a big risk entering into this and should rightfully accept whatever happens, it is nobody’s fault but our own should we not do well.

The market here is so small that if we were doing well, other skateshops would be suffering and that is not what we want. Indeed, when we set up miniLSP, it strained our relations with other skateshops and it really made us feel terrible especially since we grew up patronising those very same skateshops.

So anyway, the best way to help us and skateboarding in singapore is to get more people into it. Everyone wins when the sport gets bigger, we will have more sponsors, more competitions, more support from the government, and more public skateparks.

  40. Anonymouson 27 Jul 2009 at 11:31 am

barry and gary, stuff some wool into the ramps to silence it out.

  41. Garyon 27 Jul 2009 at 12:03 pm

the big ramp and the platform at L1 are already stuffed, but they are stuffed to make it less loud for skaters’ ears, they do nothing to take care of the noise that is transmitted to our neighbors.

The noise we hear with our ears is easily absorbed by the insulation we have already installed on the walls, and are blocked by the concrete walls themselves. The problem is actually the impact and vibrations that are transmitted through the concrete structure everytime a skateboard hits or rolls on the ground. The only sure way to stop this would be to build a separate floor above the concrete floor that is suspended on springs. These constructs are insanely expensive tho.

in other news, the new rail is being installed now as im typing this, it looks super good if i should say so myself lol.

i guess moving would be an insane suggestion :<
